Aly Muritiba

Aly Muritiba is a director and screenwriter, born in Mairi, a small town in the interior of Bahia, Brazil. His films, which he both wrote and directed, have been showcased at Sundance (Ferrugem, 2018), Venice (Tarântula, 2015 / Deserto Particular, 2021), San Sebastián (Para Minha Amada Morta, 2015 / Ferrugem, 2018), and Cannes – Critics’ Week (Pátio, 2013), winning over 200 awards at international film festivals.

For TV and streaming platforms, Muritiba has directed series such as O Hipnotizador – Season 2 (HBO), Carcereiros Season 2 (Globo), Irmãos Freitas (Turner), Irmandade (Netflix), O Caso Evandro (Globoplay), Cangaço Novo (Amazon Prime), and Cidade de Deus (Max).

In 2013, his short film A Fábrica was shortlisted for the Oscars. In 2021, in addition to releasing O Caso Evandro, the Emmy International–nominated true crime series, he released the feature film Jesus Kid, which won Best Direction and Best Screenplay at the Gramado Film Festival. That same year, his feature Deserto Particular won the Audience Award at the Venice Film Festival and was selected by the Brazilian Academy of Cinema to represent Brazil in the 2022 Oscar race.
