Guto Portugal is a screenwriter, playwright, and director from São Paulo, with experience in both film and theater. In audiovisual media, he is the creator of the Amazonian thriller series Cienfuegos, developed at Chatrone, and co-creator and screenwriter of the feature film A Capa with Felipe Novaes, a project currently in development with Vitrine Filmes.
In 2023, he and Lucas Abrahão won the Anonymous Content pitching at Rio2C with the project Ratos D’Água, now in development. Guto also worked as screenwriter and director of photography on the short film E Se Fossem Crianças?, directed by André Gustavo for O2 Filmes, and is developing a feature film with Mariana Bardan and Eduardo Melo. He is pursuing a master’s degree in screenwriting at Kino Eyes with an Erasmus Mundus scholarship.
In theater, he trained in Directing at the Department of Dramatic Arts at Yale University under Evan Yionoulis and was part of SESI’s dramaturgy program, where he published the play Desnaturados. He is a co-founder of IBT (Instituto Brasileiro de Teatro), a nonprofit organization dedicated to the performing arts, and serves as a teacher and coordinator of the Dramaturgy Laboratory. In São Paulo, three of his works have been staged: Há de Ter Fim, Cinza Névoa, and Pássaro Molotov.
